While most folks might assume that the Military and Veteran Services department is here just to serve active duty and veterans — this is simply not true. We are also proud to assist our military spouses and dependents use the benefits they have earned. An interesting fact is that 55% of Virginia Peninsula Community College’s military-affiliated enrollment is composed of dependents and/or spouses.
MyCAA – Military Spouse Career Advancement
- Program for Spouses of service members on active duty in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2 and O-1 to O-2
- Funding for license, certification, or associate’s degree necessary to gain employment in an occupation or career field
- Annual Fiscal Cap of $2,000 with a maximum tuition benefit of $4,000
Chapter 35 Dependent Education Program
- Veteran has a 100% permanent service-related disability or Veteran who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition
- Paid directly to the student via a monthly stipend based on enrollment. The School is NOT paid by the VA.
- A method of payment is required to cover the cost of attendance
Chapter 33 Transfer of Entitlement
- Benefit must be transferred while Active Duty
- This benefit pays tuition and fees directly to the College
- Book stipend paid to student
- Dependents and spouses are eligible for the Military Housing Allowance (MHA) based on enrollment
- Spouses of Active Duty Service Members are NOT eligible for MHA
Chapter 33 Fry Scholarship
- Provides Post-9/11 benefits to children and surviving spouses of Service Members who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001
- May be eligible to receive 100% of the benefits up to 36 months
- This benefit pays tuition and fees directly to the College
- Book stipend paid to student
- Monthly Housing Stipend based on enrollment
VMSDEP – Virginia Military Survivor & Dependent Education Program
- State Benefit
- Education benefits for spouses and children of military service members killed, missing in action, taken prisoner, or who became at least 90% disabled as a result of military service in an armed conflict
- Waives tuition at any 2- or 4-year state college/university for up to 8 semesters
- Additional stipend eligibility if rated at Tier 2. Stipend is dependent upon State funding and is not guaranteed.
