Welcome to the Military & Veteran Services (MVS) at Virginia Peninsula Community College. For over 50 years, VPCC has proudly served the military community.  Our staff is here to assist you with questions regarding your VA Benefits and Tuition Assistance. Credits2Careers

At VPCC, we believe that military experience, education and training should translate, whenever possible, into academic credit that can help you achieve your educational and career goals.

Credits2Careers, Virginia’s Community Colleges’ academic and career portal, is a personalized tool that will provide current and prospective military and veteran students the ability to:

  • Instantly get an estimate of potential credits from their military education, experience, and training.
  • Personalized exploration of civilian careers related to their military training and specialties; personal interests; or recommended by interest evaluations.
  • Receive real time employment information to assist military and veteran students make informed post-secondary decisions.

Virginia Department of Veteran Services connects Virginia’s veterans and their families to federal and state benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned.

Student Veterans of America ensures that student veterans and military-connected students achieve their greatest potential.

ECMC offer money management tools for students. Use their online interactive service to gain knowledge about student loans, car loans, buying or renting a place, credit card debt, budgeting, and investing.

Military OneSource provided by the Department of Defense at no cost to active duty, Guard, Reserve, and their families. It is a virtual extension of installation services.

free, anonymous mental health and alcohol self-assessments for family members and service personnel in all branches including the National Guard and Reserve. The assessments help create a picture of how an individual is feeling and whether they could benefit from talking to a health professional.

Transition Assistance Program (TAP) was established to meet the needs of separating service members during their period of transition into civilian life by offering job-search assistance and related services. The law creating TAP established a partnership among the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Transportation and the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS), to give employment and training information to armed forces members within 180 days of separation or retirement.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ’s Office of Servicemember Affairs (OSA) works to help military families overcome unique financial challenges by providing educational resources, monitoring complaints, and working with other agencies to solve problems faced by servicemembers.

Veteran and Military Spouse Talent Engagement Program (VMSTEP) provides employment readiness assistance and outreach to transitioning service members, Veterans, and eligible military spouses while advocating the use of special hiring authorities, employment programs, and Veteran retention strategies to help VA become the employer of choice for Veterans and military spouses.

VA Homeless Programs If you are a Veteran who is homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness, we strongly encourage you to contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at (877) 4AID-VET (877-424-3838) for assistance.

National Resource Directory is a comprehensive, free, online tool for wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and their families.

Scholarships for Military Affiliated Students
Transfer Credits

To request an official transfer credit evaluation:

  • complete and submit a Request for Transfer Evaluation form to the Admissions, Records, and Registration Office, Room 208 Kecoughtan Hall on the Hampton campus, or the Office of Student Services, Room 117 at the Historic Triangle campus.
  • An official transcript must be on file from each institution previously attended; transcripts should be sent directly from each institution to the Admissions Office.
  • Service Members & Veterans: Be sure to have your Joint Services Transcript or Community College of the Air Force transcripts sent for evaluation.
  • The evaluation process can take 10-12 weeks to complete, with priority given to currently enrolled students.

The College accepts credits for courses completed with a grade of “C” or better at other institutions where the courses are equivalent to Virginia Peninsula Community College courses as determined by the College. Courses meeting these criteria from institutions that are accredited by a regional accrediting body (such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) are normally accepted.

Courses from all other institutions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Transfer credit will not be awarded for courses completed with a grade of “D” or “Pass/Fail”. It must be emphasized that the appropriateness of transfer credits to a particular degree program is dependent upon approval and acceptance by the division dean or designee in the student’s program.

Student Veterans of America, Virginia Peninsula Chapter

The purpose of the Student Veterans of America (SVA), Virginia Peninsula Chapter is to promote education, awareness, and assistance to all veterans, dependents, and military affiliated students while enrolled at Virginia Peninsula Community College. The SVA at VPCC meets on both the Hampton and Historic Triangle Campuses.
