Bridge Program

Virginia Peninsula Community College’s Bridge Program is a re-imagining of our transfer articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities. The Bridge Program focuses on individuals who intend to start their college education at VPCC and transfer to a regional, baccalaureate degree-granting institution.

Christopher Newport University

The VPCC Bridge to CNU Program is a guaranteed admission agreement program established exclusively for students from Virginia Peninsula Community College to develop and grow pathways to CNU by granting early access to advising, career development, success support services, and experiences while reducing time-to-degree for students interested in studying: Students must be pursuing a transfer-oriented associate degree including the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), or Associate of Fine Arts.

Students will have access to a number of benefits designed to help transfer students succeed, such as:

  • Need-based financial aid
  • Waived application fees
  • Priority consideration for housing
  • Assistance with planning courses
  • Guaranteed acceptance of all transferable credits from VPCC
  • Built-in reverse transfer component to earn an associates degree if not earned prior to transfer to CNU
  • Early access to CNU academic resources, campus facilities, and academic advising

Students interested in participating in this guaranteed admission program must submit their Letter of Intent before their application to CNU. However, it is recommended that the Letter of Intent is submitted as soon as possible.

George Mason University

ADVANCE is a dual-admission transfer partnership between George Mason University and Virginia Peninsula Community College. ADVANCE is designed to streamline the transfer process for VPCC students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

What are the benefits of joining the ADVANCE program?

  • Dedicated Coaches – Mason’s coaches provide continuous support and guidance, from enrollment at VPCC to graduation at GMU.
  • Advance Your Career – Increased access to internship and co-curricular experiences prepare you for career success.

The program is available to students at VPCC in Virginia who are in good academic standing and who meet these enrollment requirements:

  • Hold a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average for students with college credit
  • Enrolled in an associate degree program at a participating community college in Virginia
  • Have earned no more than 30 college credits at the time of submission of the Declaration

The 30-credit limit does not include AP, IB, CLEP, or any other earned credit by exam. High school dual enrollment credit and credit earned at other U.S. or international colleges or universities apply to the 30-credit limit. Your community college and Mason have different transfer credit policies. It is important to note that your community college may accept transfer credit that Mason does not accept.
