Faculty Colloquium and Excellence & Innovation Jan. 8
Thomas Nelson's Seventh Annual Faculty Colloquium on Excellence & Innovation takes place Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Hampton campus in Templin Hall's Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium. The conference allows faculty members to discuss and examine best practices in higher education.
Faculty from Eastern Shore, Paul D. Camp and Tidewater community colleges, along with others within Virginia's Community Colleges, will be among participants joining those from the College.
Among program highlights is a keynote address by Patricia Parker, project director of a State Council of Higher Education in Virginia and VCCS initiative called Transfer Virginia. One of the state's most collaborative programs, Transfer Virginia focuses on improving the transfer system's efficiency while closing the gap for underrepresented populations and Pell Grant recipients.
Parker has 28 years as an educator teaching mathematics at K-12 and community college levels in Virginia. She has served as project manager of VCCS Mathematics Pathways Project since 2015. Her background also includes service as a developmental mathematics chair, and she was involved with Virginia's 2012 Redesign of Developmental Mathematics.
