Nominate Students for Captains Connection, a CNU Transfer Program
Nominations are open for the Captains Connections program, an innovative partnership between Thomas Nelson and Christopher Newport University aimed to increase the number of job-ready graduates in high-demand technology fields.
The program was created exclusively for Thomas Nelson students to develop and grow transfer pathways by granting early access to enrollment, support services and experiences at CNU while reducing the time-to-degree for students interested in select technology majors. Students will sign a special letter of intent and will be guaranteed admission to CNU and access to benefits as long as they maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
They will receive academic, career and financial aid advising from Christopher Newport as well as access to all athletic events while enrolled at Thomas Nelson. Students under this agreement may also take courses at Christopher Newport and pay the Thomas Nelson tuition rate through the Virginia Tidewater Consortium.
To qualify for Captains Connection, students must:
- Intend to transfer to Christopher Newport immediately after their enrollment at Thomas Nelson ends,
- Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a four-point scale as demonstrated on the official Thomas Nelson transcript, and
- Intend to declare a major in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Science/Cybersecurity.
Email nominations to transfer@cnu.edu. Include the student's name, email and phone number. Program coordinators will contact students to discuss the next steps.
Captains Connection transfer students who qualify will be provided an annual renewable Transfer Technology scholarship of $5,000 over four to six semesters while at CNU (students must meet the conditions of the scholarship). Scholarships are contingent upon availability of funding.
Students chosen for the program can take advantage of workshops at Thomas Nelson's Hampton campus later this spring.
