Thomas Nelson Community College has announced free tuition for eligible students enrolled by Dec. 14 in academic and career training courses for the spring 2021 semester.

Those laid off due to COVID-19 and who register for specific classes in high-demand fields can take advantage of the limited offer. Fields include early childhood education, health care, information technology, manufacturing, public safety and skilled trades.

Through the Re-Employing Virginia Tuition Voucher (REV) initiative, the Virginia Community College System received a $27 million allocation in CARES Act funds for distribution to its 23 schools. This means free courses and programs in the upcoming spring semester.

The initiative targets Virginia residents who are unemployed because of COVID-19 and receiving unemployment benefits on or after Aug. 1 or those who lost a full-time job due the pandemic and are now working part time earning less than $15 an hour.

"The REV initiative is a great opportunity for those who are currently unemployed or underemployed due to implications from the pandemic. For classes occurring between January and May, students can take advantage of a tuition voucher in career and technical programs designed to enable students to become skilled in high-demand technical fields," said Susan English, vice president of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Thomas Nelson.

Anyone interested should contact a Thomas Nelson advisor by emailing wfdinq@tncc.edu or calling (757) 825-4070, and enroll for spring semester by Dec. 14.
