The roof over a section of Templin Hall collapsed April 5, but there were no injuries.

Renovations to Templin Hall on Thomas Nelson Community College's Hampton campus could be done in time for the fall 2022 semester. That's according to a recent report by the vice president of finance and administration.

"Keep in mind all of this information is subject to change based on any number of things, including whether," Steven Carpenter stated during a May 19 Thomas Nelson College Board meeting.

The roof over the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, which is in Templin Hall, collapsed April 5. No one was in the building at the time, and there were no injuries.

"We're hoping that the forensic analysis of determining what specifically created or caused the issue would be complete by the end of August," Carpenter said.

The redesign is in progress, and the hope is construction can start in November, with the building ready to hold classes in late summer or early fall next year.

"If everything goes right," he added. "It will not be easy, but that is the current plan."

The College also received good news on roof repairs to Hastings Hall and that building's annex. The cost has been estimated at $2 million, with the College's portion $1 million. However, the VCCS decided to cover the entire cost.
