Basketball Team Facing Ranked Opponents
The Thomas Nelson men's basketball team is 7-0, and faces two nationally-ranked opponents this weekend, one on the road and one at home.
The first game is Saturday, Dec. 18 against Sandhills Community College, which is in Pinehurst, N.C. Sandhills is 14-4 and ranked 10th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll. The Gators return home the following day to take on Monroe College (Bronx campus) in a 2 p.m. game at Hampton's Bethel High School. Monroe College is 8-2 and ranked two spots behind Sandhills.
"We are looking forward to this weekend, and looking forward to closing out this semester with a bang," said Gators coach Chris Moore, adding these games are important because the program is in the process of becoming a NJCAA member.
After this weekend's games, the Gators are off until early January.
Home games take place in the Allen Iverson Gym at Bethel High School, 1067 Big Bethel Rd. General admission tickets are $8. The cost is $5 for faculty and staff with ID. Thomas Nelson students with ID, and children under 12 are admitted free.
