In-Person Classes Set to Resume Jan. 24
Having started the first two weeks of its spring semester classes online in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Thomas Nelson (becoming Virginia Peninsula Community College) is poised to resume in-person classes Monday, Jan. 24. Conditions permitting given this weekend's weather forecasts, classes will take place on campuses in Hampton and Williamsburg as well as satellite sites.
College officials continue to collaborate with the Virginia Department of Health while monitoring the best available data related to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially state and local data. As current public health information indicates evidence of downward trends in positivity rates, the College has and will continue to make decisions that place the health and wellness of students, faculty, staff and the community as the highest priority.
Should residual impacts from the weather result in alternate operating statuses for Jan. 24, the College will make the necessary announcements. Students will receive additional information regarding their courses from their faculty.
As face-to-face instruction resumes, College officials remind everyone that face coverings will be required while in College buildings and off-campus educational sites. Social distancing is encouraged when and where possible. Socially responsible behaviors are encouraged (cover your cough or sneeze, wash hands, don't come to work or class if you are sick, etc.).
Students with questions are encouraged to contact their course faculty. New or prospective students with questions are encouraged to contact the College's Information Center at (757) 825-2800. Faculty and staff with questions should contact their supervisor or Human Resources.
College officials understand the complex and dynamic nature of the pandemic and the demands necessary to establish an environment conducive to effective and healthy learning. For in-depth details about personal illness, confirmed exposure, positive test results, reporting infectious and/or contagious disease, please reference pages 29-30 of the College's Return to Campus Plan.
