Rarig Chosen for PTK's Distinguished Administrator Award
Dr. Kris Rarig has been selected for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's (PTK) Distinguished Administrator Award. Vice President of Student Affairs at Thomas Nelson now becoming Virginia Peninsula Community College, Rarig is among 28 college leaders from several states chosen for the prestigious honor.
"It was a lovely and completely unexpected surprise! PTK is an outstanding organization and it's been an honor and privilege to work with them," said Rarig. "To receive this as I am about to end my tenure at Thomas Nelson is particularly sweet."
The honor society will acknowledge recipients April 7-9 during its annual convention, PTK Catalyst 2022, taking place in Denver.
The award recognizes college administrators who work directly with student leaders to solve problems on campus and in their communities. They have taken an active interest in supporting high-achieving students and developing student leaders.
Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, PTK president and CEO, said these college administrators are "beloved on campus and "know students by name and by circumstance." Their nomination, she added, confirms how grateful PTK students are for the support these leaders provide "even during the most difficult times."
Honorees were selected from among thousands of eligible college administrators. Of the 28 honorees, Rarig was the only one from Virginia.
Rarig, who is set to retire in March, joined the College in 2011 serving several years in the Office of Outreach and Recruitment before becoming dean of Enrollment Management. Prior to her current post, she was named interim vice president of Student Affairs in 2016.
