College Holding Athletics Open House
Thomas Nelson Community College, becoming Virginia Peninsula Community College, is presenting an athletics open house/recruiting event for prospective women athletes at 5:30 p.m. June 22.
Prospective athletes can attend in-person at Hampton's Peninsula Workforce Development Center on Butler Farm Road, or online.
Current coaches and athletes will be on hand to answer questions and discuss what it takes to be a college athlete. An academic adviser also will be available to explain the requirements of a student-athlete and the programs the College has to offer. At the event, students will be able to apply to the College and sign up for a campus tour.
Pre-registration is recommended but not required.
The College currently fields three intercollegiate teams - baseball, men's basketball and women's basketball. In late April, the College announced it is expanding its sports programs by adding six teams in the next three years. For the 2022-23 academic year, women's volleyball and softball will be added.
Two more teams will be added for the 2023-24 academic year, and two more for 2024-25, bringing the total of sports teams the College offers to nine. The College is still examining which sports teams to add after the 2022-23 year. Possibilities include soccer, track and field, and cross country.
