Sports Update for Dec. 4: Basketball Games Called Off

Virginia Peninsula Community College men’s home basketball game scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 3, against Washington Adventist University was postponed.

“Our team has come down with a ‘sick bug’ that has taken down the majority,” Gators coach Chris Moore wrote in an email. “Thankfully, only one of them has contacted COVID and he is remaining in quarantine until he is fully cleared.”

A makeup date has not been announced, but Moore said it will be next semester.

The Gators have two games this week (Dec. 8 at Mid-Atlantic Christian in Elizabeth City, N.C., and Dec. 10 at Frederick Community College) before returning home for a weekend homestand Dec. 16 (vs. Monroe College of the Bronx) and Dec. 17 (vs. Patrick & Henry College).

The two teams are scheduled to play Friday, Dec. 8, in Petersburg. They don’t play at home again until Sunday, Dec. 17 (3 p.m.) against Patrick & Henry. It’s part of a doubleheader with the men’s programs.
