Virginia Peninsula Community College’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Certificate program equips students with the knowledge and technical skills required for careers in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry. In our program, which features the very best in hands-on learning and industry-focused coursework, students learn to repair, install, and maintain residential and commercial HVAC systems.

Our Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program emphasizes following the proper safety procedures and troubleshooting techniques, while preparing graduates for in-demand roles in the HVAC/R field. With the rapid growth of residential and commercial air conditioning and the developments taking place in the industry, there is a growing demand for trained service technicians.
Students will take classes in the Air Conditioning / Refrigeration course library, including AIR 154 – Heating Systems I, AIR 181 – Planning and Estimating I (2 credits), and AIR 235 – Heat Pumps.
Notes: This program satisfies the classroom requirement for the Journeyman licensing classroom contact hours. Students interested in EPA-CFC certification (which is the federal license for handling refrigerants) should take this course prior to the EPA-CFC testing.
