Associate of Science – Specialization in Education

There is a great demand for qualified science teachers in K-12. This is exactly why Virginia Peninsula Community College is proud to offer the Associate of Science – Specialization in Education. That degree is designed for people who are interested in teaching science at the secondary level and who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree in science education.

Courses in the program are offered at our Hampton and Historic Triangle Campuses in the daytime and evenings. Many of the classes offered in the program are also available completely online.

Special Notes: This program requires EDU 200 and an associated fee to complete the public-school division’s mandatory criminal background check for the supervised field placement in a K-12 school. Completion of 40 hours of supervised field observation and teaching science is a requirement of this program.

Students enrolled in this two-year transfer program may also be eligible for Passport Courses or Uniform Certificate of General Studies consideration. Please review the provided link for more information and meet with your advisor for details.

Articulation Agreements: Students who are interested in transferring to Old Dominion University to continue the Chemistry or Ocean and Earth program should meet with Academic Advising early to determine and discuss requirements.
