Computer Science

The Virginia Peninsula Community College is proud to offer the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree program in Computer Science as part of a statewide common curriculum designed primarily for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science.

The curriculum emphasizes programming, software design, study of algorithms, and data structures as well as computer hardware and architecture. This degree provides the basic skillset required for further specialization at the university level. Depending on the university, students will have the opportunity to select a field of study including software engineering, bioinformatics, cybersecurity, or basic research.

Graduation Requirements: Students must complete the required courses in curriculum and achieve a 2.0 minimum grade point average to receive this academic award. Students should be aware that some colleges and universities to which they may seek transfer require a higher GPA for transfer. Students should make an appointment with their Academic Advisor early on to plan the right path toward their transfer goals.
