Our Associate of Science – Specialization in Math Education program provides a strong academic foundation in both mathematics and teaching methodologies, preparing you for a seamless transfer to a four-year institution. Students who aspire to teach at the elementary, middle, or high school level, will fit right into this program.

This degree is designed for people who are interested in teaching mathematics at the secondary level and who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education. The Associate of Science – Specialization in Math Education equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a lasting impact in the classroom.

Courses in this program are offered at both our Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses in the day and evenings. Many classes in the programs are also available and online.

Special Notes: This program requires EDU 200 and an associated fee to complete the public-school division’s mandatory criminal background check for the supervised field placement in a K-12 school. Completion of 40 hours of supervised field observation and teaching math is a requirement of this program. Students enrolled in this two-year transfer program may also be eligible for Passport Courses or Uniform Certificate of General Studies consideration.

Articulation Agreement/s: Students who are interested in transferring to Old Dominion University to continue the Physics or Mathematics plan should meet with Academic Advising early to determine and discuss requirements. Additionally, students who are interested in transferring to ODU to further their education in Biology should meet with Academic Advising to discuss requirements.
