Gayle K. Blankenship Memorial Scholarship

Gayle K. Blankenship received her BS in Chemistry from Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1960. She worked as a research analytical chemist in the Department of Geology at Virginia Tech, and subsequently at Union Carbide in Cleveland, Ohio. Gayle was active in secondary education through science enrichment programs. She was a community leader in recreation, specifically water safety and swimming pool management. Gayle was awarded the Red Cross 30-year pin for her service as a Water Safety Instructor. She was an adjunct faculty member at VPCC where she taught Chemistry from 1991 to 2003. Gayle's passion for education and the success of young people is recognized with the Gayle K. Blankenship Memorial Scholarship. When possible, preference will be given to those students in a curriculum where Chemistry is a required course.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a two-year program of study at VPCC (AA, AS or AAS);
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5;
  • Demonstrate financial need by receiving financial aid; and
  • When possible, preference will be given to those students in a curriculum where Chemistry is a required course.
