Robert B. Smith Scholarship

Robert B. Smith was admired and respected throughout the Peninsula community. To many, his name was synonymous with the Daily Press where he served as General Manager. He was formerly the Mayor of the City of Newport News. Mr. Smith was also a strong supporter of Virginia Peninsula Community College where he was a charter member of the original VPCC Board established in 1967 and served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board during his 11 years of service. The Robert B. Smith Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has excelled academically and has helped others through civic work and/or extracurricular activities.

Requirements

  • Virginia resident; and
  • Graduate of one of the public high schools in Virginia; and
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5; and
  • Enrolled as a full or part-time student.
  • Letter of recommendation written by a teacher or guidance counselor.
