Friday, August 16: Faculty Forum

- Who should attend: All faculty ranked employees who are not members of another constituency group (CSSA, MLM, or President’s Cabinet) are welcome to attend.
- Description: Faculty Senate will discuss priorities and focus areas for the year ahead.
Friday, August 16: Critical Topics for Faculty
All teaching faculty are required to attend these sessions on Friday afternoon; any administrative staff whose supervisor identifies this as a critical topic for their work should also attend.
Accessibility Services

- Description: This workshop will focus on the basics of ADA and what the requirements are to offer accommodation in the classroom and beyond for students at VPCC. An overview will be presented with an opportunity for an informative Q & A session to follow.
Freedom of Information Act
- Presenter: Steven Felker

- Description: This session will provide a high-level overview and reminder of faculty and staff obligations related to the Freedom of Information Act. We will also discuss best practices to consider when communicating through VPCC or VCCS communications platforms.
FERPA, Registrar Procedures, Financial Aid Procedures

- Description: During this workshop, we will provide a high-level overview of our responsibilities to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as well as relevant Registrar & Financial Aid procedures.
Faculty Critical Topic: Title IX and Code of Conduct
- Presenter: LaRhonda Johnson Horton
- Time: 3:45-4:30 p.m.

- Description: During this session, we will review the basic concepts and regulations related to Title IX and the expectations of all VPCC community members to uphold the requirements with the utmost care. Additionally, we will provide an overview of the VPCC Student Code of Conduct, particularly related to classroom expectations.

Monday, August 12: New Faculty and Staff Luncheon

- Who Should Attend: All new faculty and staff who started at VPCC between April 1 and August 12 are required to attend; program/department chairs and vice presidents who supervise new faculty and staff are invited but not required to attend
- Description: We welcome new faculty and staff and will review VPCC Mission, Vision and the Culture of Care as well as discuss College structure and governance.
Monday, August 12: Adjunct Faculty Convocation

- Time: 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (Dinner served between 5-5:45)

- Who Should Attend: All new and returning Adjunct Faculty are highly encouraged to attend. A Zoom option will also be available from 6-8 p.m.
- Description: We invite all new and returning adjunct faculty to attend either in person or virtually through Zoom. Those that attend in-person will receive dinner. You will hear from VPCC leadership and other areas of the college to assist you in having a successful semester. Some of the individuals you will hear from are Human Resources, Accessibility Services, and Library Services just to name a few.

- Who should attend: Participants must register in advance: https://forms.gle/6FimomvLVBS8Fc8E9 any faculty or staff members who want to learn more about creating inclusive environments for military affiliated students and community members should attend.
- Session description: The VPCC Green Zone Training is a program to support military students on campus. This training will provide faculty and staff with information on how to make classrooms, offices, and the College welcoming for veterans. Experts from the VA Medical Center will present on PTSD, TBI, Veteran Suicide, and Military Sexual Trauma. Additionally, Brandie Weaver and David Lannon will provide training on interactions with veterans and how to nurture a veteran friendly environment. Upon completion, each participant will be considered a safe place for student veterans to discuss issues. A Green Zone sticker will be provided to display so students are aware you are Green Zone Trained. You will also earn a free copy of the book, Combat to College: Applying the Military Mentality to the Classroom: How To Succeed As A Student Veteran by John H. Davis. Lunch will be served.
